A Message from Chip

God has richly blessed us with much to celebrate in June in our life and ministry together. The Session will be meeting with the confirmation students to learn how God is working in their lives and how they are growing in their discipleship, so that they can be received into the membership of our church. We’ll all have a chance to celebrate their faith journey on Sunday, June 6th during the second service. BTW, it is another opportunity to wear red and celebrate God’s Spirit in their lives.

On Sunday, June 13th at 9:30 a.m. our children and youth lead us in worship ser-vice (the first of our summer worship schedule). We have the opportunity to see how they have grown in their faith and to say thank you to our teachers for teaching and modeling the faith for our kids. Our teachers have lived out our baptismal commitment to grow our chil-dren into disciples of Jesus Christ. Thank you for that!

On Sunday, June 20th, we celebrate the men of our church, our fathers in life and in faith, and our graduates. If your child is graduating from high school, please let Barbara in the office know so that we may have their gift ready that day. If your child has graduated from college or trade school or graduate school, please let us know. We want to include them in the day as well.

And, Sunday, June 27th is More Light Sunday. The Vision we are called to live as FPCY is, ―We are a community of faith, open to all, called to follow Jesus Christ, seeking to meet the spiritual and physical needs of our world with joy, support and love.‖ In a world that likes to draw clear boundaries between insiders and outsiders, our vision of a healthy, faithful church is the ―full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people of faith in the life, ministry and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA)‖ (www.mlp.org) and our church in particular. I hope you will join us for the worship service and the educa-tional event afterward.

Along with all of this, I hope you look for opportunities to join in the various ways we can grow in our discipleship and live it together for our community and world. At a re-cent Wednesday night Bible study, we reflected on Ephesians 3:14-21 and Eugene Peter-son’s chapter on the scripture passage in Practice Resurrection. In The Message version of this passage, it reads, ―I ask [God] to strengthen you by his Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength—that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you’ll be able to take in with all Christians the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.‖

I believe we are living full lives in the fullness of God. Thank you for your active, inten-tional engagement to be a community of Christians who practice resurrection, with feet firmly planted in love for all. Let’s keep on reaching out, testing, plumbing and rising together. Let’s celebrate the fullness of God working in us and through us!

Serving the risen Lord together,

Chip
