Our Mission

STEWARDSHIP 2009

AND TOGETHER WE ARE:

THE MISSION COMMISSION

The Mission Commission takes as its scripture directive the passage
f
rom Micah 6:8: “He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what
does
the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?”
  The Mission Commission
is God’s hands
on earth, doing justice, promoting peace
and walking humbly with our God.
We Are the Church Together

Did you know that the Mission Commission, chaired by Connie Knapp, is involved locally, through the Noon Time Meal Program, nationally through the More Light Presbyterians, and internationally through Bridges to Community and Amnesty International?   These are some of the ways that we live as an inclusive faith community.

Do you know that the Mission Commission supports such varied programs as the Children’s Center at Bedford Prison, Midnight Run, and the Northern Westchester Chaplaincy Fund?  The Mission Commission is also responsible for White Gift Sunday, that special day in December
w
hen we bring forth gifts for the Taconic Developmental Center.  This year will be our 49th year of doing so!

As we are blessed, so we will humbly share our blessings.

Mission Commission News

The Presbyterian More Light churches will celebrate More Light Sunday on June 6. We’re a More Light Church, part of the denomination working ―for full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people of faith in the life, ministry and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA) (from the More Light website at http://www.mlp.org/index.php?topic=aboutmlp).‖

That date won’t work for us, so we are planning our More Light Sunday service for Sunday June 27. The knit together group is busy knitting rainbow scarves to send to the delegates and com-missioners for the General Assembly meeting that is being held in Minneapolis beginning on July 3. Together with the More Light Sunday service, the Adult Forum will focus on More Light issues-watch the bulletin boards for an announcement.

Rural & Migrant Ministry (RMM) will be hosting a Walk-a-Thon for Campers on Saturday, June 5 at St. James Church in Hyde Park. The walk begins at 10 AM, and is followed by a luncheon prepared by the Culinary Christian Fellowship of the Culinary Institute of America. Registration is $5 for walkers and $10 for lunch only. If you can walk three miles you can do this-register at www.ruralmigrantministry.org/docs/walkathonregistration.pdf

We’re working on a date for the next Midnight Run. Don’t forget to bring new socks and/or under wear as your ticket for admission to the talent show-the Midnight Run closet needs to be replenished!

Amnesty International

Amnesty International-

The Urgent Action letter writing program is held on the second Sunday of each month in Fellowship Hall. Each month we receive a new case, identifying a human rights viola-tion. We are asked to send messages to the appropriate government authorities, urging them to address this specific situation.

Our letters join with others from around the world to advocate for victims who have very little recourse to help themselves. Your are invited to participate in this essential mission on May 9th. Many thanks.

Carol Myers
