Our Mission

STEWARDSHIP 2009

AND TOGETHER WE ARE:

THE MISSION COMMISSION

The Mission Commission takes as its scripture directive the passage
f
rom Micah 6:8: “He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what
does
the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?”
  The Mission Commission
is God’s hands
on earth, doing justice, promoting peace
and walking humbly with our God.
We Are the Church Together

Did you know that the Mission Commission, chaired by Connie Knapp, is involved locally, through the Noon Time Meal Program, nationally through the More Light Presbyterians, and internationally through
Bridges to Community and Amnesty International?

Do you know that the Mission Commission supports such varied programs as the Children’s Center at Bedford Prison, Midnight Run, and the Northern Westchester Chaplaincy Fund?  The Mission Commission is also responsible for White Gift Sunday, that special day in December
w
hen we bring forth gifts for the Taconic Developmental Center.  This year will be our 49th year of doing so!

As we are blessed, so we will humbly share our blessings.

The Mission Commission   sponsored a successful Midnight Run, and now we are all out of toiletries!
Look through your suitcases from your last trip, and bring us individual sized soap, toothbrushes, small toothpaste, shampoo. We also need washcloths, razors, small shaving cream, small deodorant and lip balm. The small size items are important, as full-size items are cumbersome to carry for people on the street.

We also need clothes, especially tube socks, men’s underwear, jockey style, sizes 32 through 42, sweatshirts (large and extra large), long-sleeved shirts (large and extra large, dark colors preferred) and t shirts (medium through extra large, any color). The Mission Commis-sion is looking forward to a future Midnight Run. If you would like to participate, please con-tact Connie Knapp, Mission Commission Chair, at caknapp@acm.org or 914.941.7997. For more information visit the Midnight Run website, at http://www.midnightrun.org/index.php.

And thanks to those who participated in the last Midnight Run, either by going on the run, making sandwiches or keeping us in your prayers.
The next meeting of the Mission Commission will be Wednesday, October 7 at 7:30. All are welcome to join us.

Amnesty International

Amnesty International-

In December we sent letters to officials in Myanmar, asking that Nobel Peace Prize winner Daw Aung San Suu Kyi be released from house arrest.

AI has received word that she has had a hear-ing, and it was determined that she will be released in November.

We will continue to make our vioces heard on Mar. 21, our next letter writing Sunday.
